Prevention Tips for Common Cancers

Research is the key to beating cancer and AFCR researchers are committed to finding cures for all types of cancer. Until that day comes, prevention is your best defense.


  • Get regular, intentional physical activity
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Limit alcohol intake to 3 drinks/week of any type of alcohol
  • Eat vegetables, fruit, poultry, fish, and low-fat dairy products

  • Eat fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, and grains
  • Eat less red and processed meats
  • Reduce fat intake
  • Quit smoking
  • Limit alcohol intake to 2 drinks/day for men and 3 drinks/week for women

  • Seek shade, not sun

  • Wear sunglasses that block 99-100% of UV radiation
  • Wear protective clothing for outdoor activities
