Professor Eun-Ok Im and her research team at the University of Pennsylvania, U.S., are conducting a research study to test the effectiveness of an online support group for Asian American women living with breast cancer.

Eligible participants should meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Asian American woman aged 21 years and older who has had a breast cancer diagnosis in the past 5 years;

  • Be able to read and write English, Mandarin Chinese, Korean or Japanese;

  • Have access to the internet; and

  • Identify sub-ethnicity as Chinese, Korean, or Japanese.

The project will run from October 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, and data will be collected through the internet. Methods for data collection include internet surveys of 60 Asian American women living with breast cancer at three times. Depending on the random assignment of the group, participants may or may not be asked to use the online support group, but both groups will be asked to use the online resources that are provided by the research team.

Please note that participation is voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time.

Participants will receive a gift certificate of $50. For more information, please visit https://penn.nursing.upenn.edu/ICSG and/or contact the study group by phone at 1-(215) 898-9993 or by e-mail at icsg-aa@nursing.upenn.edu.
