Dimitra currently serves on the Innovation Faculty of MIT linQ CATALYST. In this capaticy she mentors and guides innovators to accelerate and heighten the impact of their solutions on serious health and medical challenges.
Dimitra was responsible for assessing and promoting inventions generated at Northwestern University as the Innovation and Commercialization Officer of INVO. She acted as a liaison of the office and actively pursues Business Development opportunities for inventors, ranging from start-up ventures to strategic partnerships. She mainly assessed innovations in Biotechnology, and supported intellectual property strategies in the field, including biomarkers, medical devices, companion diagnostics and Health IT. Her focus was to support faculty by drafting confidentiality agreements, advising on new start-up ventures or negotiating, licensing and collaborating with strategic partners.
Prior to joining INVO, Dimitra was the Head of Operations and Vice President of Research & Development of Ohmx Corporation, an in-vitro diagnostics and biomarker development company. She had previously worked for Nanosphere and Inverness Medical (now Alere). She is the co-founder of Global Scientific Editing (GSE) and the President of Women in Bio (WIB). She serves on the Board of Chicago American Association of Clinical Chemists (C-AACC) and on the Springboard Life Sciences Alumnae Committee.
Dimitra earned a Ph.D. in Bioelectrochemistry from University College London (UCL), an M.Sc. in Biosensors from King’s College London, and a B.S. from University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Her post-doctoral work at Northwestern focused on nanoparticle based diagnostics. She is the author of numerous peer reviewed publications and patents.
