Our milestones: How a surprise discovery is helping improve cancer diagnosis

In the mid-1990s most headlines about cloning were reserved for Dolly the sheep. But she wasn’t the only thing being cloned during that time. Professor Ron Laskey, a Cancer Research UK-funded scientist, was busy in his lab at Cambridge University carrying out cloning studies of his own. He wasn’t making identical copies of farm animals though; by his own admission, he was working on something rather more obscure, cells.
