Each year, individuals around the globe come together for a day of dedication in the fight against cancer. This day is today, February 4th—World Cancer Day.

World Cancer Day is a global initiative dedicated to fighting cancer on all fronts. Over the past 20+ years, this date has been dedicated to conveying one very important message: Everyone has a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.

What started as simply a vision of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), of which the Asian Fund for Cancer Research (AFCR) is a proud member, has since become one of the largest and longest running annual international health campaigns to ever be conducted.

2021 is the final year of the UICC theme, “I am & I will.” The message aims to illustrate how each person’s efforts, large or small, can make lasting, positive change. This call-to-action encourages everyone to pause and reflect about their strengths, ambitions and what kind of impact they can make.

Consider these impactful actions in support of AFCR in celebration of World Cancer Day:

  1. Invite five of your friends to sign up AFCR’s monthly e-newsletters about cancer news and research updates
  2. Make a one-time donation to memorialize your loved one or in honor of a cancer warrior
  3. Make monthly donations to sustain your impact and support to promising cancer research
  4. Follow AFCR on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, and share our mission
  5. Download and share the AFCR Cancer Prevention and Detection Kit to your loved ones

Use the “I am & I will” theme to tell us who you are and how you’ll make your difference on social media by tagging AFCR and using the hashtag, #WorldCancerDay.

Although globally we celebrate World Cancer Day on February 4, in reality, every day at AFCR is a day dedicated to fighting cancer. AFCR-funded researchers and scientists are making great progress in their pursuit to explore and defeat cancer.
