Infecting tumours with viruses may boost the success of immunotherapy for brain and breast cancers, according to two new studies. Immunotherapy treatments can trigger impressive responses in patients with a handful of advanced cancers. But success has been limited in both brain and breast cancers. The new studies, both published in Science Translational Medicine, suggest that cancer-targeting viruses could prime these tumours for subsequent immune attack.
