The Asian Fund for Cancer Research Limited (AFCR) is saddened by the loss of George Sai Wah Tsao, Ph.D., who was a professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Director of the Faculty Core Facility of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong.
Professor Tsao passed away on 8 December 2022 from pancreatic cancer at the early age of 67. He had been a longtime supporter since the inception of AFCR back in 2005 and was a founding member of AFCR’s Scientific Advisory Board.
Professor Tsao was an authority in the study of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, focused on mechanisms in cell immortalization and malignant transformation. Furthermore, he was also devoted to connecting the scientific community and facilitating collaborations among researchers from different institutions. Over the past 17 years, Professor Tsao had played a fundamental role in AFCR’s development, helping review new innovative projects and evaluate the progress made by our scientists. Everyone at AFCR is deeply grateful for his contribution.
“George was such a kind and caring colleague, dedicating his whole life to advancing cancer research and mentoring the young generation of scientists. He was always generous with his time and his wisdom. He is one of the collaborative scientists we have worked with. I am angry that cancer cut the life short of such a wonderful human being.” Said Sujuan Ba, Ph.D., Founder & CEO of the Asian Fund for Cancer Research.
The loss of Professor Tsao will only strengthen AFCR’s resolve to conquer cancer. We believe the only way to keep his legacy alive is to advance our joint mission by funding cutting-edge research, raising awareness for cancer prevention, and promoting global collaborations for high impact.
Please join AFCR in our efforts to accelerate oncology innovations and save patients’ lives!
