International business leader and philanthropist brings extensive leadership experience, global connections, and a personal commitment to advancing cancer research.
The Asian Fund for Cancer Research Limited (AFCR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Sunil Tuli, Group CEO of King Power Group Hong Kong, to its Board of Directors.
With more than four decades of international business leadership, extensive connections across Asia, and a demonstrated commitment to philanthropy, Mr. Tuli brings valuable experience and perspective to AFCR as the organization works to expand its partnerships, strengthen philanthropic engagement, and accelerate innovative cancer research for the benefit of patients and families.
Turning Personal Commitment into Action

Mr. Tuli’s relationship with AFCR began with a deeply personal motivation. Having witnessed the impact of cancer on friends, colleagues, and family members, he was determined to turn his concern into meaningful action.
Inspired by the global #KickCancerThon initiative, he undertook a challenging five-day trek to Mardi Himal in Nepal’s Annapurna region, reaching an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters. His efforts raised more than HK$240,000 in support of AFCR’s cancer research mission. Mr. Tuli personally covered the expenses of his expedition, ensuring that the funds raised could directly support the cause.
This was not his first experience combining personal endurance with philanthropy. Three years earlier, he climbed up to the Everest Base Camp at 5364 meters, l to raise funds for children born with cleft conditions, for Smile Train. He is also a member of the Philantropic Board of that organization.
For Mr. Tuli, these experiences reflect a deeply held belief: meaningful change requires determination, collaboration, and a willingness to take action, one step at a time.
Bringing International Leadership and Philanthropic Vision to AFCR
Mr. Tuli began his career in travel retail in 1984 with the India Tourism Development Corporation, managing duty-free operations at five international airports in India. He subsequently held senior positions with Weitnauer (now Avolta), before joining King Power Group Hong Kong in 2003. He became Group CEO in 2019 And
He is also the President of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA),for over 12 years, contributing to the development and advancement of the travel retail industry across the region.
Mr. Tuli is particularly drawn to AFCR’s commitment to strengthening international scientific collaboration, advancing innovative cancer research, and addressing important unmet needs among cancer patients across Asia.
As a Board Director, he hopes to leverage his business experience, international relationships, and philanthropic network to help AFCR engage more individuals, corporations, and partners in supporting its mission.
“I am honored to join an organization dedicated to making a meaningful difference through cancer research. There is much for me to learn, and I look forward to working with the AFCR team and fellow Board members to broaden support for this important mission. It is an ambitious undertaking, but I believe that every contribution and every step forward counts.”
“We are delighted to welcome Sunil to the AFCR Board,” said Dr. Sujuan Ba, Founder, President and CEO of AFCR. “What impressed me most about Sunil is not only his remarkable business experience and extensive international network, but also his genuine desire to make a difference. He has already demonstrated that commitment through his personal efforts to raise funds for cancer research. As AFCR enters its next chapter of growth, I look forward to working with Sunil to build stronger partnerships, inspire broader philanthropic participation, and accelerate promising discoveries and innovations that can bring new hope to cancer patients and their families.”
Mr. Tuli’s appointment reflects AFCR’s continued commitment to bringing together leaders from business, science, and philanthropy to help advance cancer research and innovation. Through stronger partnerships and international collaboration, AFCR aims to help bridge the gap between scientific discoveries and meaningful benefits for patients across Asia and beyond.
